Open Question: How much does a good restaurant make a year?
We are thinking of opening a family restaurant. I was wondering about how much profit is made through a successful restaurant. I know the first few years are tough but after the restaurant is running smoothly how much on average would the restaurant make. It is a medium size restaurant designed for both fast food and seat down service with average food prices. Employees will be paid a modest wage not minimum wage. Any tips would be great also. More info the better thanks moreOpen Question: what do you think of the name "phooey's"?

I have no college degree but i am planning on going to school for graphic design within the next two years when I settle on the right college. All I have is a bit of restaurant, retail, and artistic type experience. I'm going to apply at a lot of random places: a bookstore, a bakery, starbucks, an eyeglasses place and possibly a place that does graphic design such as ads and stuff. What are the do's and don'ts of resumes? When should I bother with an objective or skills section? Should I include my previous employers' contact number and supervisor name? What about reasons for leaving and salary earned? Please only respond if you are going to answer my question. Don't spam me about how I could work from the internet or anything like that, I need a real job. moreResolved Question: How much to charge for a website?
I'm fairly new to the business side of web design, I've been doing websites for a long time but I've never had to deal with money/selling of things. I'm currently designing a website for a local restaurant - photos, graphics and all. There's a flash slideshow that I made from scratch on the front page. They will have their menu on the site, categorized, searchable, etc. I'm making a login system that they will be able to go in with and edit things, upload a photo for a menu item, change descriptions, delete things, add/change/delete menus, etc. It's sort of the whole shabang. But I don't know how much to charge. The restaurant's owner basically said 'whatever it costs' so I'm not really worried or anything, and I told him how much work all of this would take. If you're curious to see, the work in progress is at http://www.joshtoth.com/flair --> It's just hooked onto my website until we buy a domain and stuff. [Not all menu items are in there, it was mostly just stupid quick things I threw into the Database] So, how much do you think it should go for? Thanks in advance :DThe logo was an imported .ai file; I've been dealing with the php lately so the flash was put on the backburner :P moreOpen Question: Anyone want to invest in a restaurant/nightclub/lounge?

Granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, as liberals hope to do, is far more pernicious than bending the rules slightly to accommodate your El Salvadoran gardener or that polite Guatemalan waiter in your favorite fast food restaurant. Amnesty literally means that: * Politicians elected to serve We the People have willfully decided to ignore existing law when it suits them. This galling "in your face" attitude is found in both parties. What would happen if We the People were to follow the example set by our leaders and refuse to obey the law when it comes to, say, providing all information requested by census takers, or registering for selective service? Paying taxes? * America's immigration system is NOT broken: Existing laws can prevent illegal immigration if enforced. The notion that illegal immigration cannot be prevented is leftist malarkey designed to discourage right thinking politicians from doing what is right on behalf of the American people. * Illegal aliens cost America approximately $100 billion a year for education, health care and other public services to which they are not entitled. YOUR government, the one that refuses to enforce existing laws, has decided to reach into the pockets of American citizens to fund programs for illegal aliens whom would not even be here if government was fulfilling its Constitutional obligations. * While illegal aliens are rewarded for breaking and entering our nation, those who wish to come to America legally by following the rules are told to "stand in line and wait your turn." Whatever happened to "spreading the wealth" in a fair and equitable manner? * If a path to citizenship is provided for illegal aliens, those invaders will provide the wayward Democrat party with millions of "instant" voters. The millions of votes cast for Democrats by former illegal aliens will offset votes cast by legitimate American citizens. That is literally an attempt to overthrow the government with illegal aliens! Bottom line: Let your elected officials know that you oppose amnesty (defined as anything short of deportation) and demand that existing laws be enforced. NOW! Furthermore, help the cause by mowing your own lawn, washing your own car, and swearing off high fat, high salt, and high carbohydrate foods found in fast food eateries! http://newsblaze.com/story/20090610105548lill.nb/topstory.html moreResolved Question: Art Project in School?

I want to open up a restaurant as my career, since I think it would create a lively environment, and I'd be able to design it how I want and play the music that I want (with influence of opinion), but I love drawing and artwork, so I want to incorporate it into my career, but I got this idea to set aside an area in the restaurant (away from the food) and put a big empty canvas that people could come to and draw/paint on and then when the entire canvas is filled, take a picture of it, and then get another clean one and start over. I would make sure that inappropriate content was taken off, and I would take care not to get the art supplies near enough to contaminate the food. Good idea? Bad idea? moreVoting Question: base of market segmentation?

Right now I am a student in High School in Georgia, USA. The town I live in has a population of about 50,000. When I go to college, I plan to major in Graphic Design. I have looked at many schools around the world and most all of the ones I have liked are located in Europe. The ones I like the most are in Oslo, Norway, Stockholm, Sweden, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Madrid, Spain. I am wanting to if the use of metrics, foreign currency, new languages, and a different lifestyle would be hard to adapt to. Also, I am open to a different culture, but I feel I may miss some American aspects of life. The place I want to go to the most is Oslo. Are there restaurants in Oslo that can be found in America? No just McDonald's and such but more casual restaurants as well. Is American television programming broad-casted in European cities (Oslo)? Also, are people in Europe friendly. I have heard many stories about Europeans being friendly, but I just want to make sure. This question is open to Americans who have visited Europe, live in Europe, or Europeans that live in Europe, or in America. Thanks so much for the help. Also, will I need to become a citizen of Norway to go to school there? If I do go I am planning on staying for about 3-5 years. moreResolved Question: How much should I charge for designing a restaurant menu?
I'm a new free-lance graphic artist and I've just designed a four page menu for a local restaurant. I've put nearly 40 hours into it, though I'm not sure what the standard price to charge should be. It's in color and my employer seems to be satisfied. If anyone is experienced on this subject, I'd greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!I apologize, though I forgot to mention that I do not have a degree in graphic design. I took several classes in high school, though clepped out of a few college graphic and art classes. I'm not sure how much of a factor that is, though I'm hoping as long as my employer is happy it shouldn't matter. moreResolved Question: Is this professional or creepy?
I'm a 20 year old female & I work at a photography studio that also does website design. I'm currently building a website for a guy thats in his mid 20's. First, he just gave me a website & told me to just basically use it's same design & style. He wrote out a brief description of his company & said he had some images that he would email me. I called him once after that asking about the images, he said he was busy at the time & would email me them once he got home. Almost a month went by & he showed up at the studio one day asking why he hadn't heard from us. I told him I was still waiting for the images & wasn't going to build the website just to find out that the images didn't fit right & have to rebuild it. So he finally brought the images in & I set up an appointment so he could come in and look at the layout once it was complete. He comes in for his appt. & I just so happened to be the only one at the studio that day. He makes the comment "I don't have anywhere to go, so I'll just hang out so we can work through it all together" (there were a few things he didn't like, such as the font). At this point, all I had was the layout. So it would have been several hours to finish his website if thats ALL i worked on & I didn't want anyone watching over my shoulder as I work. When he stepped out for coffee, I called my boss & told him what was going on. He felt the situation made him uncomfortable & told me to make up an excuse to leave. So I told the guy that I was really sorry but I had some things at home I had to tend to. He then said that he would stick around downtown and wait on me! My boss told me to just work from home that day & that he would talk to the guy later. Well, before he could call the guy, he shows up at my boss's second job (he's also a manager at a restaurant) just to ask "if i was okay"!? The next day, I came to work & literally, as I pull up, he's walking up. I was so surprised because we had several photo shoots that day & he didn't bother to call first. I asked him if my boss had set an appt up with him and he said "no, i was here to see you" which I'm sure he was talking about wanting to build the website, but still. It was odd. I told him we had photo shoots & I'd give him a call later to set up an appt. So I called him & tried to make an appt with him (my boss gave me a date & time when he would be there, so I wouldn't be alone with him) but he said that he was busy on that day. Then, he said "well, what are you doing later? Is there any way you could stay late?" I told him I couldn't & then he got kind of upset & said something like "I just need the website done. I've already paid, so theres really nothing holding up on my end" Even though we waited a month for him to get the images to us, plus he never calls to make appts, he just shows up. Is it just me or is this really unprofessional? Is it creepy or am i overreacting? Has anyone else had a client who just wanted to sit there and watch the whole process? Should that even be aloud?K so to the people who didn't feel like reading it -- you shouldn't have wasted your time responding. but congrats. you got your two points.woohaa -- i asked it on here because i didn't want to make a big deal out of something if i was just overreacting & reading it wrong. that's why i wanted to get other people's opinions. moreResolved Question: Should I move to Las Vegas with my boyfriend?
I will be 24 in a month. He is 23. We have been dating for about a year. Recently we took a trip to Vegas for about a week to see what I thought about it. He has family that lives there, and told me before we started dating that he would want to move there in the future. I have lived in IL my entire life and all my family lives here or in Indiana. I loved it in Vegas it's so warm there compared to IL. I just don't know if we broke up if I could live on my own there. He has a car that I can drive so that wouldn't be a problem. If I moved there I plan to keep my car here insured for at least a year in case something happened. My car is old and wouldn't be worth driving to Nevada. He plans on moving sometime mid June- early July. I would not move until early August. I am taking a summer class. I finished school with my associates in graphic design but have been unable to find a job. I am looking into a different field. Maybe medical coding? My parents will not help me with school anymore so I have to pay for it myself. If I move to Nevada I would either have to get a full-time job (just prove it with a pay stub I can quickly quit the job after I prove this) or pay out of district rates for a year. That's how residency works for school since so many people move out. I'm taking this course to see if that's what I want to go to school for. So I will not be going to school until Spring 2010 whether I move or not. So if I do move I have 5 months to find a full time job. He said that if I decide to move he would take an airplane to come get me. When he moves he will be living in an apartment with his mom for 6 months. After that he plans on buying a 2 bedroom condo in Vegas. I know that if I do move I will be paying for rent. I pay my mom for rent now. My family does not think moving is a good idea, but said that it's my decision and if something did happen they would help me come back here if I needed cash. After going on that trip I hate IL. I see how cheap it is to live somewhere else, nicer weather and better people. Taxes here are crazy high for what reason? I don't think I'd be able to even afford to live on my own here. We have not lived together yet. He lives with his sister right now. They are going on vacation for a week so I plan on living with him during that time they are gone. My job is nothing special. I work at a fast food restaurant. It's not that far from my house, 5 minutes, his house 20. My bills are only 200-300 a month. I don't think we are ready to be engaged yet. We haven't even lived together. Engagement or marriage I would have the same chance of us breaking up if I moved. moreResolved Question: Did I answers these Economic questions right you can answer only one - thanks?

I'm a 27 year old male and I graduated from culinary school almost 5 years ago. I've moved up in the ranks as far as management goes in a small, starter restaurant. The restaurant is rapidly picking up in business, however I find myself struggling to get time off when need be. I'm also in a relationship (5+ yrs.) and its on the verge of becoming an engagement. I'd love to change careers and still get married in the next year, but my girlfriend doesn't think its possible due to tuition and time commitments with school. In order for me to change careers in the industry I'm interested in, I'd have to go back to school for 4+ years. I'd love to go to art school and study graphic design because I still think it would allow me to be creative and travel like I've always wanted to. I know this is long, pls bear with me...thank you! I'm currently applying for flight attendant, this has always on my mind since I was a child. I've actually filled up an online application form about nine months ago, to a middleast airline. A relative of mine told me, it is very hard and unhappy to work in middle east, all his friends that work in middle east tell him so, and himself also experienced rude and bad service at an restaurant in airport while eating and waiting for transit. After hearing this, I put a pause on my application. Now, after nine months of working as a clerk, a nine to five job, I clearly know it is not suitable for me. I keep thinking back the flight attendant job,and decided to give it a shot no matter what.I wanted to try more things when I'm young.I intended to do this for two years, I just want to experience it, not to take it as long-term career, after this, I'll continue back on fashion(I've obtained an adv. diploma in fashion design.). I wanted to try more things in life, and try to live a life with no regret. But all my families told I should focus on fashion instead of flight attendant, and said trying this and that is wasting time. 1.Should I just keep on focus on fashion, and forget about flight attendant? 2.It is bad to put effort and money in cabin crew training, and just work for two years? I'm sooo not focus right now.Help!thank you for the answers...with good analysations and encouragement... regarding the question why I want to work in a middleeast airline...I would say, their uniform attracted me on firstsight..:-P, but I also hope to work there, and observe their culture. I just found out my wife is having an affair after a friend saw her kissing him during a date at a restaurant. It wasn’t long (since February 19, 2009 she says). I’m just devastated, angry, jealous-I feel so betrayed. I never expected her to do this. We’ve been best friends for years but we’ve only been married for a little over a year (we wed December 3, 2007) I really believe she is apologetic. She literally had a panic attack when I confronted her. She said she was sorry and that she was just an idealistic dreamer (what does that have to do with it?) and that she has become spoiled, take my efforts for granted and has unrealistic expectations. She told me that it wasn’t because I was doing anything wrong. She told me I was her beautiful, romantic, chivalrous gentleman and her white knight and ray of sunshine but that she married me for the wrong reasons. She said she married me because 1) I was in love her and she was flatted and it felt so romantic and she loved that I loved her and she was afraid she would never find anyone who loved her that much again. 2) She had just broken up with a very abusive boyfriend (who she was with for four years) 6 months prior and she wanted to be rescued and wanted safety, security, and stability. 3) She wanted to be married. She wanted a fairy tale romance and she wanted to be Martha Stewart/Bree VandeKamp/June Cleaver/Donna Reed etc. But after she got that and the honeymoon phase ended she felt dissatisfied and started having an affair with the guy who used to be her English professor. The dude is 24 years older than her (she’s 27, he’s 51) but she feels they have more in common (literature, cinema, the arts, cooking, music, interior design) and apparently the affair wasn’t just about sex but them going together to the opera, museums, classical music concerts, the theater, antiquing, wine tasting, outdoor cafes or staying in and cooking dinner together. He’s like her secret second husband that she has been seeing and sleeping with pretty much every week! I want her to stop seeing him and she agreed but she wants to remain friends with him and I don’t want her to do that. The guy thinks he’s fallen in love with her. But she says she cares about him too much to just push him out of her life. So I asked her if she would rather have him than me and she said she didn’t want a divorce because she needs me. I’m emotionally exhausted but I still adore her and love her and I want to forgive her but I don’t know how I can trust her. How we can salvage our relationship if the only reasons she is with me is because I love her and offer her safety, security, stability and the change to be a retro housewife? We are already attending couples therapy. I’m having a tough time dealing with this. Is this relationship worth saving? What should I do?not sure if it's important but my wife has mixed anxiety-depressive disorder and obsessive–compulsive personality disorderricky, I doubt it. I knew her ex and he really was a total psychopath. She was not crying wolf at all. And no, her professor is single. He's a widower.to answer whoever asked I didn't notice because I work 60 to 70 hours a week now because of the recession. and I did know that those were her hobbies and I did take part in them with her when I could but probably didn't enjoy them as much as her... boyfriendbtw I'm older than my wife. She's 27 and I just turned 33 last monthMcLovin...not coolI have not intention of "getting back" at my wife by cheating as well. I don't just hook up with people and I would never intentionally cause her emotional pain. I'll be the first to admit she shattered me and she may be flawed but she's not evil and I'm not looking for revenge. I really do want to see if it is at all possible to forgive her and heal our relationship.I really don't think he's getting tired of her any time soon. He's wanted for nine years. Pretty much since the first day she took his class. He wants to marry her. Seriously. His wife died years ago and he wants a young wife because he doesn't want to bury another wife. He is grooming my wife to be his wife. moreVoting Question: What are some good names for a restaurant? help me!!! urgent!?

my step daughter and her boyfriend plan to go in june for 6 days. this states it is an all inclusive resort and looks great. i did a pricing for the dates she selected and they were $163 per night which sounds great. but according to the amenities copied below Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa All Inclusive is in Montego Bay, 38 km (23.5 miles) from the Rose Hall Great House, and 30 km (18.5 miles) from Doctor's Cave Beach. This all-inclusive beachfront resort features five outdoor pools, including a 30,000-square-foot outdoor pool with eight connected spa tubs. A separate swimming pool is designed for children; the Mini Club provides entertainment for kids 4-12 years old. In addition to beach activities, the hotel includes three tennis courts, two beach volleyball courts, two basketball courts, and a football field. This Montego Bay hotel includes a spa, and a salon. Buffet breakfast is complimentary and served each morning. This all-inclusive hotel includes three buffet restaurants, 13 bars, and eight themed restaurants serving cuisine such as barbecue, Creole, Indian, and Italian. it does not say all booze, food is complimentary which most would mean if it states "all-inclusive" when my husband and i went to Jamaica 2 years ago, it cost us $4,200 which included the airfare; they had a special promotion on and the cost w/out the airfare would have been around $3,600 for 7 days. this was Hedo II and most will say that is more pricey. we also checked the following year the surrounding resorts, Sandals and others and was being priced between $4K to 7K. i read the reviews which are mixed from great to the star rating overdone and hotel in need of repairs and the staff not real friendly. one comment made reference that they were charged for something at their dinner they did not know they were going to get charged. for a resort by the looks of the picture and the price, question if this really all-inclusive?? what other expenses can they expect? maybe this being a new resort, has priced itself real low to get customers or is the resort for the room and breakfast only and all other food/drinks on your dime? thanks in advance if any have been there, can you give me some insight. moreResolved Question: does anyone know an online restaurant games?

i have been in a relationship for about 4 months with a girl i like a lot. since the beginning, ive known her to be a spender, especially when it comes to shoes and thrift stores. when we went out for valentines day it was one thing for me to pay for the day as well as the first few times we went out. but recently it seems like im picking up everything. id think that since we are both in college we could come to sharing our costs when we go out. but it always seems like she doesnt have enough money in her checking account or she cant use her credit card because if she uses it any more this billing period, she wont have enough money to pay the bill. it was recently my birthday a couple weeks ago so she wanted to take me out to a concert of one of my favorite bands. she bought the tickets which were $12.50 each, and claimed she wanted to pay for dinner too. but when we go to the restaurant, suprise! not enough money. im stuck with the bill. not to mention the subway fare for both of us all around the city. then this past week we're out at an italian place, and who doesnt have enough money for her portion of the bill, i covered it. then this weekend, we went to a play, because she said she wanted to take me to see this great musical. tix are $25 each. she only has $40 in her account, so naturally because its easier to do 1 transaction, i use my debit and pay the combined $50. we're early for the show so we walk around a park across the street where there s a big walk for hunger going on. we decide to get lunch at one of the fair vendors. she had given me the $40 she had withdrawn earlier in the day but then took $20 to buy the lunch, ok. Then, we're walking around the town in some stores, shoes and hat stores, "oh so cheap, do you have any money?" i pretend that i have no more cash because im tired of lending her money and im trying to teach her that it is not necessary to buy everything in sight, for example a hat i saw and liked for myself that was $40 in the store, i could afford it, but i dont need it right now, i plan to look for a better deal online or maybe go back later in the future to the same store. then, a couple days ago, her and A friend (she told me only 1 friend, i later found out there were 4 in the car) wanted to go to a 12:00 midnight showing of rock horror picture show at a theater about 30 mins away from our college. i have a car and the local mass transit system does not run past 11;30pm so theyd have no way of getting back later, naturally i let her borrow the car so they could get there and back and lent my portable GPS. the trip is about 20 miles each way + tolls. She has not paid me for the gas used (which she could have easily collected a couple bucks from each of her friends since if it wasnt for me they wouldnt have been able to go). she keeps calling these things loans. i have a part-time job on the campus, i make between $50-$100 in a week when i work if i am not too busy with papers or studying, she does not have any sort of job. i labored for the past 4 months sending cover letters and resumes, following up, and interviewig to end up with 2 competitive internships in nyc which both are unpaid/for school credit only. she had not been very proactive in summer job search so i offered to hook her up with my old summer camp job and she more or less scoffed at the idea of being a camp counselor. now her dad, an art and set design director for hollywood is attempting to set her up with a Personal Assistant gig on the set of some tv show he is working on which would reportedly pay her $500 a week. She keeps saying once she makes some money she is going to treat me to a nice steak dinner at a restaurant we both like but have never been to together. is there some other issue i have that goes beyond the money things? moreVoting Question: WHat is mentally wrong with my cousin?
We used to be very close when I was younger. I visited his Aunt for 2 weeks, and i was disturbed. firstly he is a computer consultant, he makes $175K a year, hes 38 yrs old. He lives with his mother and never lived anywhere else. He has no expenses, loans, student loans, NOTHING! Well all he does is stay with and talk, do things with his mother 24 hours a day or hes in the same chair on his computer. For example, on Fri and Sat night he spent the whole day with his mother, from AM to PM...Also when i went out with a friend he was jealous. He also gets nervous around me and i feel very uncomfortable around him, i get a weird feeling and have to leave the room, he just makes me feel sick. He used to have a girlfriend, at one time all my friends wanted to date him, but hes turned himself into a fat, nerd. I told him in a nice way that with his salary he should get his own place, he told me "SHUT UP" Also he doesnt contribute to his mother, nothing wrong with his mom, so she doesnt need him there. I even mentioned to her, shouldnt he get his own place and meet new people? She told me she told him and he has no interest.. I just find this highy weird and disturbing.. He also was complaining because he brought 2 apples for $2.00 and online he could have gotten them for $1.00.. I was like are you kidding? Honeslty i think hes nuts even though he has a great job, what do u think about this, whats wrong with him? I was also talking about how my friend is going NYU, all of a sudden he says "Shes some spoiled brat with everything handed to her"-- he doesnt know her.. Then I was saying how my friend Tim landed his own tv show as a music vj and he says "big deal his show comes on at 11 pm and it will be cancelled. he also told me that i have pipe dreams about becoming a fashion stylist and i will wind up single and mopping floors at 30, even though I graduated from a top design school-Parsons. We went out to a restaurant to eat and he kept looking around to see if anyone was looking or watching him, it was so weird. He also keeps telling his mother how he was beat up in grade school. guilttripping her for not taking him out of the school. moreVoting Question: How can I get Microsoft Office?

Chapter one I cast a hopeful glance at the reflection of my back in my bedroom mirror and sighed loudly. Nothing I ever did would hide the aggressive and deep burns overwhelmingly covering my back. I used a whole jar of expensive liquid foundation to attempt to conceal some of their drastically horrifying appearance and as I continued to stare at my reflection, all that seemed to do was sharpen their appearance in contrast to what little unburnt skin was left. I don’t even want to remember how I got those burns to begin with. It sickened me to just think about it. I turned to face the mirror and grimaced as I wriggled into my favourite jeans and threw on a sweater that had been sitting at the bottom of my closet for a few years. My room wasn’t much. An average bed lay in the middle with four wooden posts. Elaborate metal designs connected the two posts at the top of the bed. As usual, my bed was not done but no one ever entered so why the bother? On one end of the room were my study table, silently gathering dust, and a relatively large window that took up a third of the wall. On the other side was the door, nothing interesting there. My closet and mirror were directly in front of my bed against the wall. Midnight blue was my favourite colour, so I made sure my parents had my bed covers, pillows, curtains and feature wall that way. Apart from that was a cordless phone, a bedside lamp and an alarm clock propped on my bedside table. Shoved to a corner of my room was a small book shelf that was free with the exception of a single book. My parents hoped that I would start reading but I wasn’t the type of person that would open up a book and read, especially those popular fantasy love stories. I tried it once and ended up feeling a hollow emptiness where my heart was supposed to be because I knew back then that someone like me will never have someone to love. So I shoved the book in the corner of the bottom shelf and left it to rot. Recently however, things were playing out quite well. I was off to see my two-month boyfriend Jack in a well-to-do restaurant, about a twenty minute walk from home. That was after he announced it to the whole class during fifth period. We’ve kissed a couple of times, but every time his hand slipped up to the bare skin of my back, I felt a strong urge to pull away. I don’t know why but I think it’s because I’m ashamed of the burns. He doesn’t know of course, nor does anyone else for that matter. I couldn’t even bring myself to tell my best friend, Kate, whom I’ve known for about six months. I’d rather be buried under rocks than let somebody find out. Hell, I’d rather die- and that’s something big -than let anybody find out.oh trust me no one knew about them because ther's a twist to them that goes perfectly well with the story. its not from a fire or anything random like that. but i get where u think im coming from. and yes her favourite colour is important in a slight way. moreResolved Question: Does food get ordered more if they're shown as pictures in a restaurant menu versus text only?
